Long time no write!

Lots going on in the Carney world so let's get right down to it:

First off, we've moved from New York City to the Republic of Georgia! Those of you who have read all of my updates will remember that our single "Love Me Chase Me" was not only #1 in the Republic of Georgia for the past 2 years, but that also was transposed down a minor third so it could be made the bridge of their national anthem! We're not only honored, we're also quite confused, but so goes show business!

Second off, I wish that were true cause it would be equal parts bizarre and humbling…

Third off, here's the real stuff:

As many of you already know, Reeve has been quite busy the past few months with an American Idol performance, Tony Award Performance and having to hand post EVERY "Rise Above Single" poster in the country with his face on it himself. The rest of us in CARNEY have been a little bit busy too seeing as how we just discovered that since day 1 of our Spider-Man journey we have yet to call out of a performance (over 200 since November) or rehearsal (I think we're at 5 or 6 gajillion?)

Anywho, the time has finally come for CARNEY to be at the forefront of our minds and in preparation of opening for U2/Arcade Fire in Moncton, New Brunswick Canada on July 30th, CARNEY is performing in NYC at The Bowery Ballroom on July 25th, 2011! We were supposed to be doing many more concerts in the city starting at the beginning of the year but we were a little held up with Spider-Man as you probably have heard from your local taxi/twitter feed/Conan O'Brien clip ;-)

But, now the Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark has opened, we in CARNEY have gotten right back into band rehearsals - it's hard to express how stoked this makes all of us…seriously, you have no idea - we're writing new songs, discovering that we don't suck at our instruments as much as we thought we would after playing the same gosh darn (but wonderful!) music for most of the past year, and have already begun reminiscing on how great it will be to eat some greasy Waffle House food after getting little to no sleep next time we go on the road…

The last time the band played together was VALENTINE'S DAY! Those 4 months were about 6-8 times longer than we've EVER gone as a band without even rehearsing and let me tell you, absence absolutely made the heart grow fonder - can't wait to share all of our bottled up energy with you at The Bowery Ballroom…

Oh, and extra special featured guest Paris Carney will be opening for us! If you get there early to see her you'll probably find us scattered throughout the audience...

(Santa Monica, CA) Music From SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark will be released on June 14^th by Interscope Records. With 14 new songs co-written by Bono and The Edge for the Broadway production, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, the album is produced by Steve Lillywhite. Songs are performed by the cast including Reeve Carney in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Jennifer Damiano in the role of Mary Jane, T.V. Carpio as Arachne and Patrick Page as the Green Goblin, with contributions from Bono and The Edge and music performed by the production’s twenty member strong orchestra. The release date coincides with the opening night (June 14^th) of the Broadway show.

Scheduled for release today is the first single, “Rise Above 1” performed by Reeve Carney featuring Bono and The Edge, produced by Alex Da Kid. Following its release this morning to radio and internet media, “Rise Above 1” will go up for sale digitally at 5:00 p.m. (PT) / 8:00 p.m. (ET).

Carney is the frontman (on lead vocals and guitar) of the Los Angeles-based rock band Carney. His band-mates, Zane Carney (guitar), Jon Epcar (drums), and Aiden Moore (bass), perform nightly with the Broadway orchestra of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark.

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, the most ambitious production ever under­taken on Broadway, is currently in previews at the Foxwoods Theatre on West 43^rd Street. Lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris recently announced that Philip William McKinley, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Chase Brock have joined the creative team to help implement new staging, assist with book rewrites, and create additional choreography, respectively. McKinley has vast experience directing technically complex productions on Broadway and beyond. Aguirre-Sacasa is an acclaimed playwright, screenwriter (Big Love) and a noted writer of Spider-Man comic books. Brock is an innovative choreographer experienced with large Broadway shows.

Inspired by over 40 years of Marvel comic books, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek suddenly endowed with incredible powers soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains put both his physical strength and strength of character to the test.

The show features direction by Tony® Award-winner Julie Taymor (The Tempest, Across The Universe, The Lion King), music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy® Award-winners Bono and The Edge, and a book co-written by Taymor, Glen Berger (Underneath The Lintel) and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Bio

Zane Carney is a native New Yorker who moved to LA as a child to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a child-actor-who-quits-acting-before-his-first-barmitzvah (and he's not even Jewish!) In August of 2010 though, he moved back to NY with his band Carney (Interscope) as they joined the production of Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway. Zane's brother Reeve is playing the title role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man while bandmates Aiden Moore and Jon Epcar join him in the Pit Orchestra that features music by U2's Bono and The Edge. Two months ago Zane performed a sold out show at Rockwood's Stage 2 with Soul Puppet's Stephan Hovsepian - a night some endearingly refer to as "relatively good music, if you're into that sort of thing" - and he's hoping to bring something similar on May 29th at 9:30pm in a fully exposed solo show. There will be singing, improvising and lots of guitar.

Making the Band: Carney eventually formed an eponomous band alongside his brother Zane, bass player Aiden Moore and drummer Jon Epcar, all of whom appear onstage in the Spider-Man band. “My music is very visceral,” he explains. “When I’m performing, it’s all about the intensity and passion.” While Carney is pleased to have moved into acting in Taymor's Tempest film (as Ferdinand) and now as Spidey, he admits he’ll miss traveling across the country with his band. “It’s my favorite place," he says of the road. "I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The freedom you feel when you’re out there—there’s nothing like it.” Carney adds that he's quite the prankster while touring, but is hesitant to reveal his best gag. “Let’s just say it involved a microwave, a pound and a half of Hershey’s chocolate and a pair of medium-size boxers. They still don’t know it was me.” (Sorry Reeve, secret’s out!)
